The auditorium, located in the Dag Hamerskjold Library, was part of a gift from the Ford Foundation. The auditorium and library went 40 years without major renovations. The auditorium's systems needed to be updated and handicap access needed to be provided. The renovation had to be coordinated with extensive restoration work on the auditorium's historic hardwood finishes. Custom details needed to be developed to allow for rail, speakers, lighting and mechanical system installation, which preserved and complimented the existing finishes. Mechanical, audio and lighting systems needed to be designed within very tight spaces and with very precise performance requirements. All of these systems were designed, bid and installed within the timeframe of an already started wood restoration. Total construction cost - $5 million
